   Introduction

BIOCELL (NNE-2001-00500) is a 3-year project co-funded by the 5th Framework Programme of the European Community - managed by the European Commission - and forms part of the EESD- Part B-Energy Programme.

The aim of BIOCELL combined project is to demonstrate the benefits of the creation of a new sustainable design methodology to create pre-engineered buildings in the architecture, engineering and construction sector. Within this project, the following objectives will be achieved:

    1. To develop a new methodology for the sustainable design and construction of industrialised cellular buildings

    2. To develop new industrialised modules with integrated solar thermal and solar PV components as well as built in energy efficient systems and services

    3. To demonstrate the use of this methodology and these new industrialised modules for engineers and architects in Europe

    4. To make the new methodology and the new industrialised and integrated modules commercially available and to demonstrate their cost-effectiveness in the European building market

Two demonstration buildings will be developed within the project: first one is located in Central London ( UK) and the other one will be located in La Garriga (SPAIN)
