CIMNE is a research organisation in Barcelona, Spain. CIMNE was created in 1987 as a Consortium between the Catalan regional government and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, with the support of UNESCO. CIMNE has also specialised in the development of AI models based on the MonteCarlo method and Neural Networks and IT tools such as XML tools, internet portals and user friendly interfaces for software based on numerical methods. CIMNE has recently received one of the 2002 IST Awards for a new software product named GiD [IST-1, 2002] for pre-processing analysis data and the visualization of numerical results from engineering computations (see www.it-prize.org/winners).

Euromap is the first fully commercial actor in Europe to successfully receive, archive and market satellite Earth observation data. Experience and expertise in data reception and data processing is being optimally combined at Euromap with the required marketing and distribution activities - an essential precondition for flexibly serving the growing market for remote sensing data. |

The Hydraulics Section is oriented to the Hydraulic engineering area, with some areas of expertise like channel hydraulics, urban hydrology and sewage networks, dam hydraulics, flooding and river engineering and hydrological modelling. A large part of the water in nature and civil engineering works has free laminar flow at time-variant rates. The movement of the water is governed under certain hypotheses by complex differential equations. The numerical resolution of these equations with the aid of computers (numerical models) is a basic requirement for the study of such varied and important phenomena as floodplain behaviour in rivers, channel operation, urban sewer networks, etc. |

In 1989 the Agricultural School of Athens changed its title to the Athens University of Agriculture (Law 377/1989), while at the same time seven independent Departments were established, six supplying a degree, with the Department of Science providing compulsory preparation courses for all the other Departments during the first year of study. By the law 1892/90, the title of the degree awarded by the University was changed from, Degree in Agricultural Studies to Agronomist Diploma. On 20/6/95 the Athens University of Agriculture changed its title to the Agricultural University of Athens to indicate the wider scope of studies it now encompassed, beyond the strict confines of agriculture. During its more than seventy years of existence this of tertiary Agricultural Education Institution has far exceeded the hopes that the State placed on it at its inception for Greek Agricultural Science. |

SPAP (Association of Municipalities for the Protection of Pendelikos) was founded in the early 1990's as an initiative of 15 municipalities around the Pendelikos mountain in Greece. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Pendelikos mountain is one of the last remaining forest areas in the Attica region of Greece. This region suffered sever fires in the last years which devastated much of the forest. This has lead to soil erosion with the obvious consequences in the increase of the risk of floods. One of the main objectives of SPAP is to monitor this risk and to define and implement efficient methods for managing flood emergency situations ensuring the protection of human lives and existing infrastructures |
