Dr. Lloberas-Valls holds an MSc degree from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Technical University of catalonia (UPC) and the Faculty of Geosciences University of Barcelona (UB). He pursued his doctoral studies at the Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands) in the framework of The project ‘Structural damage due to dynamic excitations: a multi-disciplinary approach’ funded by IWT Vlaanderen, the Institute for the Promotion of Innovation by Science and Technology in Flanders. His research experience is mainly centered in the computational solid mechanics field and, in particular, he has concentrated in multiscale analysis of failure processes in quasi-brittle materials frequently employed in the civil engineering environment. During his PhD studies he has developed robust and objective methodologies for the concurrent and hierarchical multiscale analysis of failure and strain localization phenomena.
In July 2013 he joined the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) in Barcelona (Spain) as a Postdoctoral researcher in the framework of the European project ‘COMP-DES-MAT: Advanced Tools for the Computational Design of Engineering Materials’ funded through an ERC Advanced Grant to Prof. Fco. Javier (Xavier) Oliver. The project is based on the nascent ‘Materials by Design’ concept which is expected to deeply influence the computational mechanics future trends.
His current research lines are related to the COMP-DES-MAT main axes of investigation (multiscale, reduction and optimization techniques) and, in particular, the multiresolution analysis of structures undergoing quasi-stactic and dynamic fracture phenomena.
Recently he has been awarded a Postdoctoral Junior Grant: Juan de la Cierva – JCI-2012-13782 by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) in Spain.
