CIMNE merges with CENIT
The Centre for Innovation in Transport (CENIT) has been recently incorporated to CIMNE as a new research group in the area of transport. The fusion, that becomes effective on July 1st, has been approved by the Government of Catalonia on May 30th 2017.
The Centre for Innovation in Transport (CENIT) was created in 2001 as a public consortium between the Government of Catalonia (Department of Territory and Sustainability) and the Technical University of Catalonia · Barcelona Tech (UPC). Its main goals are promoting the knowledge and research in transport and providing technical support to the institutions working in this field.
The International Center of Numerical Methods in Engineering, CIMNE, that this year 2017 celebrates its 30th anniversary, has a highlighted research area on transport related to aerospace, naval and marine engineering. With the integration of CENIT in CIMNE, synergies in research, development and technology transfer on the transport field will be enhanced. This will contribute to provide solutions on the transport and mobility area of interest to society from a cross-cutting point of view. In words of Prof. Eugenio Oñate, the director of CIMNE, "the inclusion of CENIT into CIMNE is a great opportunity to consolidate and expand the research activities of both organizations and strengthen the links with the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Catalonian Government and other stakeholders in the transport field".
