The Aula UCLV-CIMNE receives the National Prize of the Sciences by the Cuban Academy of Sciences

On April 8th, 2017, the president of Cuban Academy of Sciences, Dr. Ismael Clark Arxer, has delivered the National Prize to the Scientific Research Result by the Academy to the research made by the Central University “Las Villas” of Cuba (UCLV) and the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). The awarded work, Development of advanced technologies for the generation and packaging of particles focused on the methods of discrete elements, has also involved the collaboration of the universities of Leuven (KU Leuven, Belgium), and Brasilia (UnB, Brazil), as well as foreign and local institutions.

Dr. Carlos Recarey, director of the Aula UCLV-CIMNE, was the person in charge to collect the prize for this work focused on the development of particle methods (specially in the Discrete Element Method). It manages to geometrically model the macrostructural essence, with special emphasis on the microstructural modelling of materials.

CIMNE researchers involved in this project are the following ones:

Eugenio Oñate (Scientific coordinator), Ferran Arrufat, Guillermo Casas, Miguel Ángel Celigueta, Miguel Cerrolaza, Alberto Férriz, Óscar Fruitós, Salvador Latorre, Juan Miquel, Jerzy Rojek, Miquel Santasusana, Gerardo Socorro, Jorge Suit and Francisco Zárate.
