CIMNE Seminar -"Audio Signal Processing for Dynamic Noise Mapping in Smart Cities", by Francesc Alías

Noise maps have been historically collected and generated by means of costly expert measurements using certified devices. However, this classic approach has recently undergone a change of paradigm thanks to the emergence of the so-called Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks, which can be used to measure and manage the noise pollution in Smart Cities dynamically. This change of paradigm poses some specific challenges, being some of them derived from the automation of data collection and their subsequent signal processing. This seminar will describe the key steps of the audio signal processing together with the main challenges of their application for computing dynamic traffic noise maps in real-life environments.
Dr. Francesc Alías received the B.Sc. degree in telecommunications engineering and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electronics engineering by Enginyeria La Salle from Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), Barcelona, Spain, in 1997, 1999, and 2006, respectively. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering at La Salle-URL, currently serving as the Head of the Department. From January 2014, he is also the Coordinator of the Research Group on Media Technologies. His main research interests are audio processing, speech analysis and synthesis, and natural interaction. Dr. Alías has led and participated in different R&D projects and has published more than 100 articles in national and international conferences and journals.
