Coffee Talk - "Working on octrees", by Jorge López Ruiz
Tuesday, November 28th, 2017. Time: 15h.
Place: O.C. Zienkiewicz Conference Room, C1 Building, UPC Campus Nord, Barcelona
Octrees were initially used on computer graphics as searching methods, actually they are becoming an important part on sciences and engineering due to the efficiency and low usage of memory when are used. Octree algorithms are naturally parallelizable due to the highly independence on most of the operations to work with them. We are developing two algorithms that in this work are presented, both of the algorithms use octrees paralellized with MPI. The first algorithm is to search collision between spheres, and the second correponds to a tetrahedral finite element mesh generation algorithm.
The speaker is an Industrial Engineer specialized in statistics by the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes (UAA). He has a master on Computer sciences at Center for Research in Mathematics (CIMAT) and, since a few months ago, he is a PhD student at CIMAT. He is collaborating with CIMNE in the TCAiNMaND project mainly in the development of finite element mesh generation algorithms. His research interests are finite element mesh generation, optimization and numerical simulation.
