Seminar - "Improvement of elemental enrichment methodologies for multi-material problems", by Julio Martí

Until today FEM is the most powerful numerical method for solving engineering problems involving multi-materials. However, the presence of an interface is still a challenge for the modeling, especially in the cases where the interface is not aligned with the element edges. A number of methods have been developed to overcome these difficulties; however, the enrichment of the approximation space is one of the most efficient techniques that could be used. This seminar will present some advances achieved by the group in this field using an elemental enrichement methodology. Numerical examples involving weak and strong discontinuities will be presented in thermal and fluid- mechanics problems.
