Coffee Talk - "BIM at the construction site", by Ms. Jeniffer Nogales and Mr. Gerardo Chavarri

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018. Time: 15:30h.

Place: B0 building (3D room), Campus Nord UPC

ABSTRACT

BIM

A digitization process is taking place in the architecture, engineering and construction sector (AEC) through the BIM (Building Information Modeling) ecosystem, including many ICT disciplines such as web applications, mobile devices, or the virtual and/or augmented reality. Most of the current works focus on the transition from 2D/3D CAD and other software tools to these new integrated processes, while a harder challenge seems to be waiting out there, at the building site.

This presentation address two key questions:

(a) how could the process of adopting these innovations be; and

(b) how could these technologies be introduced at the building site, a space significantly different from the offices.

Ms. Jeniffer Nogales and Mr. Gerardo Chavarri will present us two examples of tools to use BIM at the building site, a first one based in a mobile App for the supervision of the dayly tasks, and a Augmented Reality viewer to compare the BIM model with the progress of the building under construction.

SPEAKER
Jenniffer Nogales

Ms. Jeniffer Nogales is an architech and has recently finished her Master in Structural and Construction Engineering at the UPC with a work entitled "The Digitization in the Construction Projects Execution Stage".

Chavarri

Mr. Gerardo Chavarri is a civil engineer and has recently finished his Master in Structural and Construction Engineering at the UPC with a work entitled "Augmented reality as a means of visualizing BIM models in construction".
