Seminar - "How the Nuclear Engineering Inspires the New Cardiovascular Devices through Novel Flow Modelling", by Dr. Amir Keshmiri

Monday, June 18th, 2018. Time: 12 p.m.

Place: O.C. Zienkiewicz Conference Room, C1 Building, UPC Campus Nord, Barcelona.

ABSTRACT

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a specialist technique to simulate and analyse fluid flow and associated phenomena, using computer-based simulation. CFD has great potential for calculation of haemodynamic parameters and correlation to various cardiovascular diseases. In this talk, Dr Amir Keshmiri will give an overview of some of the latest projects in his research group, with emphasis on the development of advanced cardiovascular medical devices inspired by the nuclear industry and other patient-specific modelling tools and methods which contribute to the fight against cardiovascular diseases.

SPEAKER CV

Dr. Amir Keshmiri received his BEng, MSc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester, UK. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering (MACE) and the Director of Business Engagement at the University of Manchester. He is a Chartered Engineering and is the Fellow and Council Member of the UK Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE). He leads a multi-award winning research group with expertise in different aspects of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
