Coffee Talk - "Turbulent fluid flows: a different approach", by Sergio Idelsohn
Thursday, October 18th, 2018. Time: 15h
Place: O.C. Zienkiewicz Conference Room, C1 Building, UPC Campus Nord, Barcelona
Most of the fluid flows found in nature are turbulent. However, its numerical solution is nowadays very complicated. The most accurate way to solve them is via DNS (Direct Numerical Simulation), but the current power of computers only allows to solve very simple cases. Based on the fact that the Navier-Stokes equations via DNS allow to simulate the turbulence without any additional hypothesis, we propose an algorithm that we call Pseudo-DNS that allows solving the most expensive part of the calculation "off-line", leaving for solving on-line and at reasonable computer times, the different turbulent flow problems. The proposed methodology opens the doors for the simulation of turbulence in active fluids. Note: This talk will be given in Spanish.
