Successful CAxMan Workshop

On 2nd of May, 2016, CIMNE successfully hosted in Barcelona the CAxMan Workshop, a side event of the World Manufacturing Forum 2016.

The meeting was a good opportunity to hear about on-going European Commission projects related to manufacture processes and innovation in industries. Also, the event visitors could learn more details about European Commission plans regarding future calls.

The opportunities to foster integration of innovations by manufacturing Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were also addressed during the workshop. To close the event, a final panel discussion highlighted the main challenges and difficulties to be overcome for the full adoption of the new developments by the industrial sector.

Additive Manufacturing market

The Additive Manufacturing (AM) market is expected reach 16.2 billion USD by 2018. As a result, there will be increasing demand for a software ecosystem that enables Computer Aided Technologies (CAx) support of AM processes and machines. However, to move from prototypes and demonstration 3D-models to real industrial use one needs to document and certify the quality of the outcomes of AM processes, such as product strength, surface quality, material behaviour and shape constraints.
