The kickoff meeting of NEREIDAS
Nereidas is the acronym of the project "Environmental restoration techniques for diminishing the environmental impacts of ports: Steps towards a new certification".Nereidas is co-financed by the European Union in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) , the new EU infrastructure policy will put in place a powerful European transport network across 28 Member States to promote growth and competitiveness.
Nereidas is a project based on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) objectives, paving the way to meet the target of 60% reduction of CO2 emission by 2050. Transport infrastructure is fundamental for the smooth operation of the internal market, for the mobility of persons and goods and for the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the European Union. Nereidas is the first step to develop a standardization tool for the implementation of preventive and compensatory measures for environmental damage related to transport and port activities. In Nereidas project, we analyze and test the deployment of integrated solutions to minimize CO2 emissions, biodiversity reduction and external costs in Mediterranean ports. In order to validate the results and expand them to other Mediterranean ports, steps towards a new standardization will be provided.
The consortia of NEREIDAS are integrated by Spain partners only. The lead partner of NEREIDAS is the ‘Autoridad Portuaria de Melilla’. The consortia are completed with Philippe Cousteau Foundation, ATISAE company, University of Murcia and CIMNE.
The kickoff meeting of NEREIDAS was developed in Melilla, 7 to 9 January with the participation of the project office of NEREIDAS of INEA. The Innovation & Networks Executive Agency (INEA) is the successor of the Trans-European Transport Network Executive Agency (TEN-T EA), and its mission is to bring expertise and high quality of programme implementation to the management of infrastructure and research projects in the fields of transport, energy and telecommunications, and to promote synergies between such activities for the benefit of the project promoters, the Commission and the stakeholders. By CIMNE attended Jesús Carbajosa, Francesc Campá and Pedro Arnau.
