Research

The main research topics of the investigation of the Engineering Mechanics - Industrial Manufacturing Processes Group include:

  • Advanced Manufacturing Processes: Friction Stir Welding, Electron Beam Welding, Additive Manufacturing, Casting process, Metal Forming.
  • Computational Failure Mechanics.
  • Constitutive Modeling.
  • Advanced thermo-mechanical algorithms.
  • Advanced mixed finite element technology.
  • Contact algorithms.
PIs: Miguel Cervera and Michele Chiumenti

At present, particular emphasis is paid to the analysis and simulation of Additive Manufacturing in metals, polymers and concrete.

The Group is actively working on the internationalization of the research, creating links and collaborations with research/industrial centers worldwide, e.g. in Australia (Monash University, RMIT university), China (Northwestern Politechnical University of Xi’an, and the SKLSP Laboratory), Peru (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú - PUCP) and multiple centers in Europe (Hydro and SAPA in Sweden, Fraunhofer and ACCESS in Germany, CNR in Italy, SINTEF and NEST-AS in Norway, LTAS-MN2L in Belgium, IK4-LORTEK, Spain).
