On February 23rd, 2016, the researcher at CIMNE Fernando Salazar has been awarded his PhD by the UPC·Barcelona Tech. Dr. Salazar presented his thesis entitled "A machine learning based methodology for anomaly detection in dam behaviour", which was qualified as Excellent “Cum Laude”. The research was conducted under the supervision of CIMNE's Full Research Professor Eugenio Oñate and Prof. Miguel Ángel Toledo, from the Technical University of Madrid (UPM).

The exam committee was composed by José Polimón (President of the Spanish Committee of Large Dams and Reservoirs, Spain), Ignacio Escuder (Full Professor of the Technical University of Valencia and Chairman of the International Committee on Computational Aspects of Dams (ICOLD), Spain) and Juan Mata (Post doctoral research fellow at Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), Portugal).
