CIMNE presents Scipedia at the Spring School of the ACER

The R+D centre CIMNE has participated actively in the Spring School for scientific communicators of its different members organized by the Catalan Association for Research Entities, ACER. The event has taken place in June 22th, 2017, at the Torre Marimon, in Caldes de Montbui (Barcelona), where the premises of IRTA are located. It consisted of a various lectures offered by the different members of the association to share how are communicating science from their research centres. The concepts of Open Science, Open Access and the science for society that are promoted also from the European Commission remained very present during the Day.

In this connection, the researcher of CIMNE, Julio García, Group Leader of the Naval and Marine Group gave a talk about Scipedia, the Open Access Publishing Platform promoted by CIMNE that has been recently launched. Under the title " the publication platform of the CIMNE for an Open Science", García, who leads the project, explained the advantages of Scipedia and the new possibilities that offers in comparison with the existing ones. 


What is Scipedia? is a new initiative promoted by CIMNE for fostering the publication and dissemination of documents in an Open Access format and which has several innovative features.

The unique feature of Scipedia is that it creates and manages journals and collections of publications of individuals and groups (e.g. a single author, a group of academics, a university department or a research centre, etc). The documents are generated from the “original” text of the publication in Word or Latex and can be modified with the online editor of Scipedia to embed in the document videos, data files, models, etc.The collections may include articles, monographs, books, magazines, technical reports, conference proceedings, etc. From the documents published, one can automatically generate copies in PDF or EPUB format for e-books.

All documents published in Scipedia are indexed by the main search engines of scientific and technical documents, such as Google Scholar, Open Aire, etc. All content is also traceable by Google robots (and others) so that each part of it is traceable.

The published documents have a discussion forum where they can be commented by registered users. These comments will contribute to the “popularity” of the document and increase the “prestige” of the author and of those who participate in the discussion.
