Professor Eugenio Oñate has recently released the second volume in Spanish of his book entitled “Cálculo de estructuras por el Método de los Elementos Finitos. Volumen 2. Vigas, placas y láminas” ("Analysis of structures by the Finite Element Method. Volume 2. Beams, plates and shells"). Published by CIMNE, this new book arrives three years after the publication of the first volume, with the same title but focused on solids.
The new volume of 905 pages presents a detailed description of the Finite Element Method (FEM) for analysis of slender and thick beams, thin and thick plates, laminar structures formed by plate assemblies, axisymmetric shells, shells of arbitrary geometry and prismatic structures. Emphasis is made in the use of composite materials in the different structures considered in the text.
The two volumes of the book cover most of the theoretical and computational aspects of the linear static analysis of structures with the FEM. The content of the book is based on the classes in the course on Analysis of Structures by the FEM taught by the author at the Technical University of Catalonia since 1979.
