Following the recent accreditation of CIMNE as a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence, on December 18th, 2019 CIMNE held the Kick-off Meeting of the different activities planned in the Severo Ochoa Programme. The event gathered about 200 persons from CIMNE staff at the Conference Room of the Civil Engineering School of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona.

Mr. Ferran Falcó, General Secretary of the Ministry of Territory and Sustainability of the Government of Catalonia; Prof. Pedro Díez, Scientific Director of CIMNE and Director of the Civil Engineering School of UPC; Prof. Gabriel Bugeda, Former Vice-rector of Scientific Policy of the Technical School of Barcelona and Full Research Professor at CIMNE; and Prof. Eugenio Oñate, Director of CIMNE; explained to the audience what the Severo Ochoa's Programme involves within the context of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). The excellence in academic performance and technology transfer and the role of CIMNE in UPC were some of the topics of this part of the event.

After the institutional presentations, Cecilia Soriano, Staff Scientist at CIMNE and member of the implementation team for the Severo Ochoa's Programme at the centre, focused her speech on what represents belonging to the Severo Ochoa's Programme of Centres of Excellence, what is the path to achieve its goals and what it involves from a multidisciplinary point of view for the members of CIMNE. Anna Font, General Manager of CIMNE, was next to take the floor elaborating on further details such as recruitment, communications and human resources policy, among other topics related to the management of CIMNE.
