FPI 2021 - Call for a research grant to carry out the doctoral thesis

Published: 10/10/2021

Through the Research Personnel Training program (FPI) of the Spanish Ministry of Science, a scholarship is announced to carry out research at CIMNE leading to a doctoral thesis at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).

The research topics are as follows:

The simulation of complex structural materials, such for example the masonry, requires the use of advanced constitutive relations, which in turn poses challenges at the moment of identifying the relevant parameters. The raise of Machine Learning and Data Analytics technologies opens new possibilities in addressing such challenges either via the use of nonlinear regression approaches or by employing data-driven approaches. The proposed work aims at combining experimental and numerical techniques in the generation of suitable training data to be later used in choosing optimal constitutive behaviours. This will be achieved either by the use of suitably defined micromodels, or by the direct training data by the use of imaging technologies in postprocessing experimental results.

The scholarships have a duration of up to 4 years and an annual gross salary of € 16,250 for the first and second annuities, € 17,410 for the third and € 21,760 for the fourth.

Dedication: Exclusive (40 h / week)

Qualification: MsC in Civil Engineering, Graduated in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering, Engineer or Graduated in Industrial or Aeronautical Engineering.

Requirements: Good academic record. Motivation to carry out research work in the fields of scholarships.

Application process: Interested parties must send their application through the Ministry's website, providing the required documentation on the website from 28/10/2021 to 11/11/2021.
