Lucia G. Barbu has a PhD in Structural Analysis by the Polytechnic University for Catalonia since 2016 and Bsc and Msc in Civil Engineering by the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest, with specialty in Structural Engineering.

She has collaborated since 2011 in multiple research projects both at national and international level in the field of Computational Solid Mechanics, both in the academic and in the industrial field, at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering in Barcelona, Spain.

Among the most significant at national level are a study on the behaviour of the Baserca and Llauset dams under the combined action of gravity, hydrostatic pressure and temperature funded by Endesa Generatión S.A. and a study on the structural behaviour of the Vandellos II, Asco I and Asco II nuclear plants throughout their estimated service life, as well as their structural behaviour under ultimate loading state, both funded by ANAV S.A.

Starting with 2017 she is an Associate Professor in the Environmental and Civil Engineering Department (DECA) of the UPC. There she lectures on Composite Material Structures, Design of Lightweight Structures and Mechanics. She has also advised Master and Bachelor thesis and is currently advising several PhD thesis. She has participated in 20 Defence committees for Master and Bachelor thesis.

Additionally, since 2017 she is the president of the Committee in charge of organizing the cycles of scientific dissemination seminars titled CIMNE Coffee Talks. Starting from February 2021 she is the coordinator of the H2020 project Fatigue4Light, “Fatigue modelling and fast testing methodologies to optimize part design and to boost lightweight materials deployment in chassis parts” overseeing a consortium formed by 13 European partners from 4 different countries.
