Fatigue is in many cases a key phenomenon when assessing the durability of structural elements or mechanical components. Furthermore, its importance is emphasized in the advanced design and optimization of parts necessary under the lightweighting paradigm that is driving today’s industry needs.
In this seminar CIMNE’s fatigue modelling approach will be explored for different materials. Damage and plasticity models oriented to fatigue will be presented as well as coupled plastic-damage formulations. Recent advances achieved in the framework of different research collaborations will be presented.
Lucia Barbu is a Serra Húnter Lecturer at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) as well as an Affiliated Scientist at the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) where she is leading the Fatigue Unit. She has obtained her PhD in Structural Analysis in 2016 at UPC and has continued to pursue research in Computational Solid Mechanics in the following years with special emphasis on the constitutive modelling of fatigue processes for steel and composite materials as well as on developing computational methods for the nonlinear analysis of prestressed structures.
