The Master on Numerical Methods in Engineering recieved in 2015 the accreditation by AQU and EUR-ACE®

Introduction

The Master on Numerical Methods in Engineering was first presented in the 2007-2008 Academic Year in parallel with the Master of Science in Computational Mechanics. It is an Official Master of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). It is organized by the School of Civil Engineering of Barcelona (ETSECCPB) in collaboration with the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE). This master is an updated version of the Master in Numerical Methods for Computation and Design in Engineering that has been taught in UPC since 1989 and that has achieved international prestige.

The School of Civil Engineering of the UPC and in particular the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) have a wide experience in organizing post-graduate and master courses in the field of numerical methods and engineering and its lecturers have a strong background on the covered subjects. This master course has been designed to fit the European Area High Education standards.

This Master is focused on the development and application of numerical methods in engineering and in computational mechanics in particular. The basic modules include continuum mechanics, calculus programming, finite element method etc. Applications focus on mechanics of structures, fluid mechanics and dynamics, forming processes and electromagnetism among others.

The objective of this Master is to provide a multidisciplinary and deep training in the field of numerical methods. Both innovative techniques and classical methods, commonly used in engineering practice, will be taught. In particular the finite element method will be studied in detail together with other similar numerical techniques. Graduates of this master's degree course will be experts in numerical methods in engineering. They will be professionals able to put into practice the acquired knowledge directly to the industry and they will also have the necessary scientific background to apply for a PhD position successfully.

Lectures are given by professors of the departments of Applied Mathematics III (MAIII) and the department of Strength of Materials and Structural Engineering (RMEE). The lectures will be given in English. The class material and documentation will be available in English and Spanish. Personal tutoring will be offered in English, Spanish, and Catalan.
